Blue Jackets News: RECALLS RIGHT WING YEGOR CHINAKHOV FROM AHL’S CLEVELAND MONSTERS

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled right wing Yegor Chinakhov (YEH-gohr CHEE-nih-kawf) from the Cleveland Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Chinakhov, 20, made his North American pro debut with the Monsters on Saturday and recorded a goal and a shot in a 5-4 overtime win over Syracuse.  He skated for Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League in 2020-21 and registered 10-7-17 with six penalty minutes, six power play goals and 60 shots on goal, while averaging 14:00 of ice time in 32 regular season games.  The Blue Jackets’ first round pick, 21st overall, at the 2020 NHL Draft captured the league’s Rookie of the Year award and led all KHL players 20 years or younger in points-per-game (0.53) and goals (tied) and ranked second in assists (tied) and points.  He added 5-2-7 and 24 penalty minutes in 21 playoff games to help the club win the 2021 Gagarin Cup.

The Omsk, Russia native notched 36-54-90 with 22 penalty minutes and a cumulative +52 plus/minus rating in 97 career outings with Omskie Yastreby in Russia’s junior league (MHL) from 2017-20.  The 6-1, 189-pound winger posted 1-0-1 in five outings for Russia at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships and helped the country capture a silver medal at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championships with 2-1-3 and four penalty minutes in seven appearances.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Monday when they visit the Detroit Red Wings.  Game time from Little Caesars Arena is 7:30 p.m. ET.  The game will be broadcast live on Bally Sports Ohio and streamed on the Bally Sports app.  The game may also be heard on the Blue Jackets Radio Network, including Sports Radio 97.1 FM in Columbus.
