2021 All-Star Game: Oakland A’s 1B/OF Matt Olson named to American League Team

Athletics first baseman Matt Olson has been elected to the American League All-Star Team on the player ballot for the 91st Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 13, at Coors Field in Denver. It is his first career All-Star selection.

Olson is the first A’s first baseman to represent the club at the All-Star Game since Yonder Alonso in 2017.

Olson, 27, entered the day hitting .282 (81-for-287) with 51 runs scored, 18 doubles, 20 home runs, 53 RBI, a .370 on-base percentage, .554 slugging percentage, and a .924 OPS in 79 games this season. He is among the American League leaders in home runs (4th), slugging percentage (7th), OPS (8th), extra-base hits (T-8th), and sacrifice flies (T-8th). Olson leads American League first basemen in RBI and ranks second in home runs.

In six Major League seasons, he is batting .251 (445-for-1770) with 273 runs scored, 84 doubles, one triple, 123 home runs, and 315 RBI, with a .344 on-base percentage, .508 slugging percentage, and an .852 OPS. His 123 home runs are the most by an A’s player in his first 498 career games and are 10th-most in Major League history. Olson is a two-time American League Rawlings Gold Glove winner (2018-19) and his 473 games at first base are fourth-most in Oakland history.
