NHL fines Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar for High-Sticking

NEW YORK (May 9, 2021) – Florida Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for high-sticking Tampa Bay Lightning forward Mathieu Joseph during NHL Game No. 857 in Sunrise, Fla., on Saturday, May 8, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 18:42 of the third period. Weegar was assessed a minor penalty for roughing.

The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
