TONIGHT’S GAME: Is Game 1 of a 3-game series vs Alex Arpiza’s
Diamondbacks and Game 4 (2-1) of a 7-day, 6-game homestand that
included a 2-1 series win vs the Indians…following this series hit the West
Coast for the second straight road trip as part of a 6-game stretch at StL’s
Busch Stadium (3g) and at LA’s Dodger Stadium (3g).

SUSPENDED: RF Nick Castellanos tonight and tomorrow will serve a
2-game suspension “for his aggressive actions and for instigating a benchesclearing incident” vs the Cardinals on 4/3…the suspension yesterday was upheld in full following appeal…he also was fined an undisclosed amount,
as were teammates Eugenio Suárez and Jesse Winker along with Nolan
Arenado, Jordan Hicks and Yadier Molina of the Cardinals…in the fourth
inning of that 9-6 win vs StL, Castellanos was ejected for the first time in his
career after play was halted for 10 minutes when benches cleared…reached
base that inning when he was hit by a Jake Woodford pitch and later scored
on a wild pitch.

TRANSACTIONS: Yesterday, RHP Cam Bedrosian cleared waivers and
was outrighted to the alternate training site…Bedrosian was designated for
assignment on Saturday, when RHP Sonny Gray was reinstated from the
10-day injured list to start that night’s game vs the Indians.

SERIES NOTES: The Reds and Diamondbacks are meeting for the second
time this month…the Diamondbacks earned a 2-1 series win from 4/9-4/11
at Chase Field.

OFFENSIVE: Reds batters lead the Major Leagues in slugging percentage
while ranking second in the majors in HR and third in runs scored, batting
average and on-base percentage…while jumping out to a 6-2 record, the
66 runs scored by Reds batters led the Major Leagues and was the highest
total in franchise history through the first 8 games of a season (8.25 r/g,
.316ba, .388obp, .567slg)…the 1900 Reds held the previous record, with 64
runs through 8 games (8.00 r/g)…since then, over the last 7 games, the Reds have been shut out twice while scoring 25
runs total (3.57 r/g, 45-229, .201ba, .274obp, .349slg), including 10 runs in Fri’s win vs Cle.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Jonathan India ranks among National League rookies in most offensive categories and ranks
among the overall NL leaders in RBI (T11th)…in his first 6 career apps produced 10 RBI, tied for fifth-most in Major
League history by a player in his first 6 career apps behind only Dale Alexander (13 RBI in 1939), Trevor Story (12 in
2016), Nico Hoerner (11 in 2019) and Mandy Brooks (11 in 1925)…the RBI became an official statistic in 1920…courtesy
@EliasSports.

LEADING OFF: Tyler Naquin ranks among the National League leaders in HR (T2nd) and RBI (T5th)…on 4/6 and 4/7 vs
Pit, Naquin became the first Reds batter with a leadoff HR in consecutive apps since Eddie Milner did it on 6/24 vs SD & 6/25 at SF, 1984…Pete Rose (1976) and Gary Redus (1983) are the only other Reds batters with leadoff HR in consecutive apps…Naquin’s 7 RBI on Tue vs Pit tie Brandon Phillips (7/30/15 vs Pit) for the most in a game by a Reds leadoff batter since the statistic became official in 1920…courtesy @EliasSports
