Ohio State’s Madison Bizal Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

Madison Bizal

Junior assisted on all three goals in weekend series at Wisconsin

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Madison Bizal, a junior defenseman from Elk River, Minn., has been named the WCHA’s Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.

Bizal assisted on all three goals last weekend in Ohio State’s series split with No. 1 Wisconsin. In Saturday’s 2-1 overtime win over the Badgers, she took a shot off a faceoff that was saved by Badger goalie Kennedy Blair. The rebound, however, was loose in front of the goal and eventually put in by Liz Schepers.

Through eight games, Blair leads the Buckeyes with six assists and is tied for the top spot on the team with seven points. She tied for second in the WCHA in assists per game (0.75) and eighth in points per game (0.88).

Ohio State moved up one spot in this week’s USCHO poll to No. 3 after knocking off Wisconsin on Saturday. The Buckeyes travel to Duluth, Minnesota this weekend and will face No. 6 Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Jan. 15 and Saturday, Jan. 16.
