Blue Jackets place Calvin Thurkauf on waivers for purposes of loan to EV ZUG

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Calvin Thurkauf on waivers for the purpose of loan to EV Zug in Switzerland’s top professional league (NLA) for the remainder of the 2020-21 season, club General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Thurkauf, 23, who signed a one-year National Hockey League/American Hockey League contract extension with the Blue Jackets on October 27, has collected three goals and an assist for four points with 26 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating in 19 appearances with EV Zug (NLA) in 2020-21.  He made his NHL debut with Columbus on Feb. 22, 2020 at Nashville and skated in three contests with the club in 2019-20.

A native of Zug, Switzerland, Thurkauf (TUHR-KAWF) has added 22-30-52 and 101 penalty minutes in 154 career AHL contests with the Cleveland Monsters since making his North American pro debut in 2017-18.  The 6-2, 204-pound forward finished third-T on the team in assists and fourth-T in points in 2019-20 with 9-17-26 and 37 penalty minutes in 53 outings. 

Columbus’ seventh round pick, 185th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft, Thurkauf registered 51-64-115, 141 penalty minutes and a cumulative +53 plus/minus rating in 121 career appearances with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League from 2015-17.  He has represented Switzerland at various international tournaments, including the 2016 and 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships and 2015 IIHF U18 World Championships.
