Tajon Buchanan had break through season for New England Revolution

Tajon Buchanan

On Tuesday, Tajon Buchanan was named Canadian Youth International
Men’s Player of the Year — a deserved accolade for the 21-year old from
Brampton, Ontario. Buchanan is an ascending talent in the Canada Men’s
National Team’s player pool, and led all Canadian MLS players in appearances this season:

Buchanan emerged as a fixture in the Revolution’s starting lineup during
his second professional campaign. He finished the regular season as one
of two Revs players — along with teammate Adam Buksa — to appear in
all 23 regular season games, contributing two goals and two assists.
He has taken another leap forward in the MLS Cup Playoffs, starting each
of the Revolution’s three games at right back. Buchanan, who had featured exclusively as a winger for New England, made his first ever start
at right back in the team’s Play-In Round match against Montreal. He has
slotted in at outside back in each of the team’s two successive games, and
establised himself as a threat in all thee phases of the field.
Buchanan scored his first career postseason goal in Round One against
Philadelphia, and followed that up by winning a penalty kick and delivering the cross that ultimately led to Gustavo Bou’s game-winning goal in
the Semifinal.
Buchanan’s performance against Orlando — only his third career start
at right back — was particularly noteworthy. Beyond factoring into the
Revolution’s first two goals, he also led the team in tackles (9), duels won
(15/20), fouls won (4), and added four recoveries, two interceptions, and
two clearances. His nine tackles are most by a Revolution player in a
match this season by a margin of four:
