Nov. 16, 2020

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder on top (Louisville, Kentucky/St. Xavier) and linebacker Jarell White on bottom (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) was named American Athletic Conference Players of the Week on offense and defense, respectively, the league office announced Monday.

The 7-0 Bearcats remained unbeaten following a 55-17 home win over East Carolina on Friday, Nov. 13. UC has gone undefeated at home in three straight seasons for the first time in school history, building on a school-record 19-game NIppert Stadium winning streak.

Ridder was responsible for four touchdowns and had 402 yards of total offense in the victory. He completed 24 of 31 passes for a season-high 327 yards and three touchdowns (33, 45, 12) and added a team-high 75 rushing yards including a 7-yard TD. Ridder, who leads UC with 14 touchdown passes and nine rushing scores, has accounted for 17 touchdowns in the Bearcats’ last four games.

White, also tabbed as the Generation UCAN Walter Camp Football Foundation Football Bowl Subdivision National Defensive Player of the Week, led a Cincinnati defense that limited East Carolina to 17 points and 293 total yards. He had a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown to go along with seven tackles, a sack and QB hurry. It marked the Bearcats first defensive TD of the year and White’s first career score. The AAC leader in tackles, White notched his third career interception and a career-long interception run back. White leads The American with 9.3 tackles per game this season.

The No. 7 Bearcats return to action on Saturday, starting a three-game road trip to close the regular season at UCF. Kickoff from the Bounce House is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and 700 WLW AM.
